LPGA to include ranking in Solheim criteria

updated 11:02 a.m. ET Aug. 26, 2011

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The LPGA Tour will use the women's world ranking to determine the final two U.S. players who qualify for the 2013 Solheim Cup.

The 10 qualifiers for this year's American team were determined by a points list, which is based on LPGA Tour earnings. Now, the top eight will qualify off the points list, and the next two will come from the world ranking.

If that were in effect this year, Christina Kim would not have qualified. Kim, who has had a top 10 all year, earned the 10th spot this year based on her performance in 2010.

The last two U.S. captains, Rosie Jones and Beth Daniel, have endorsed the change. Daniel says she looked closely at the ranking when making her two captain's picks in 2009.
