Traffic delays expected with marathon, Pride parade

Seattle weather forced city crews to cancel one road construction project this weekend but traffic still will be hectic with two major events, including the Rock N' Roll Marathon and the Seattle Pride Parade.

Luckily, with such a busy weekend, plans to close Aurora Avenue North at 85th Street for a weekend repaving project were postponed due to rainy weather, the Seattle Department of Transportation reports.

But, drivers and transit riders are urged to prepare for route changes around downtown and Capitol Hill.

The Rock N' Roll Marathon starts Saturday at 7 a.m. Several streets will be closed overnight and in the morning, including? Broad Street from Denny Way to Fifth Avenue North and Fifth Avenue North from Broad to Mercer streets, SDOT reports.

Delays are expected around the route into the afternoon. About 40 Metro Transit bus routes will be affected. See the parade route at?http://seattle.competitor.com/.

On Sunday, more than 250,000 people are expected to attend the Seattle Pride March and Festival, which starts at 11 a.m. The parade will stage at Fourth Avenue between Columbia and Union Streets. The route will head north on Fourth from Union Street to Denny Way; west on Denny to Second Avenue North; and north on Second Avenue into the Seattle Center.

Several more pride events will take place on Capitol Hill.

"The Seattle Department of Transportation urges motorists to plan ahead for traffic delays, or better yet, consider parking the car and taking one of the many alternate modes of transportation available ? Metro Transit, the West Seattle Water Taxi, the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, car pool, bicycle or walk, if feasible," SDOT said in a news release.

SDOT has more information on the city's website. See King County Metro Transit's website for a list of all bus reroutes.

SDOT officials say they have not yet rescheduled the closure of Aurora Avenue North and North 85th Street, although it mostly likely will happen mid-summer. SDOT plans to close the intersection and detour traffic over several weekends to finish the project.
