Jon Cryer, Ashton Kutcher and Angus T. Jones from "Two and a Half Men" all made Forbes' latest highest-paid actors' list.

There's money in laughter, at least for "Two and a Half Men" stars Ashton Kutcher and Jon Cryer, who topped Forbes' list of the highest-paid actors on television, released Tuesday.

Forbes estimates that Kutcher made $24 million between June 2012 and June 2013. He joined the show as tech billionaire Walden Schmidt in 2011, after Charlie Sheen's much-publicized departure.

Kutcher also starred as Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in the recent movie "Jobs," which made only $16 million. "Kutcher can absorb the blow," said Forbes. "He’ll earn even more as his episodes of 'Two and a Half Men' go into syndication, and there’s no reason for CBS to cancel the cash cow anytime soon."

Kutcher's co-star Cryer, who's been on the show since it began in 2003, was second on the list, with an earnings estimate of $16 million. Young co-star Angus T. Jones, just 19, was seventh on the list with $11 million in earnings. Jones left the show at the end of the 2012 season after making some controversial comments about "Men," including calling it "filth."

Ray Romano took third place behind Kutcher and Cryer, and is credited with $16 million. Mark Harmon of "NCIS" and Neil Patrick Harris of "How I Met Your Mother" tied for fourth at $15 million, followed by Patrick Dempsey of "Grey's Anatomy" at $13 million.

Forbes' numbers don't include just TV paychecks, but all "entertainment-related endeavors," the magazine notes.

Booker's campaign path bumpier than anticipated

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Cory Booker's path to Wednesday's U.S. Senate election has been bumpier than anticipated.

Even Republicans had expected Booker, a Democrat in a Democratic-leaning state, to cruise to victory by a wide margin over little-known Republican Steve Lonegan in the special election to replace former Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who died in June.

While Booker holds a double-digit lead in most polls, the charismatic Newark mayor has faced sustained Republican criticism that has exposed vulnerabilities that could hamper him should he seek even higher office someday.

Lonegan has hammered Booker on Newark's economic troubles, tax increases, and violent crime. The GOP also has assailed him over a 2008 statement that a drug dealer he called a friend was actually an "archetype"; his G-rated Twitter exchanges with a Portland, Ore., stripper; his out-of-state fundraising trips; and a Washington Post interview where Booker, who talks about past girlfriends but prefers to keep his personal life private, said he "loves" when people on Twitter say that he is gay and asked, "so what does it matter if I am?"

After weeks of mostly ignoring Lonegan, the sustained assault has gotten Booker's attention.

He has aggressively hit back in the past several weeks, castigating Lonegan seemingly at every turn, using the brass-knuckled political skills he learned in the rough-and-tumble world of Newark politics.

"Sending him to Washington would be like pouring gasoline on a fire," Booker said, calling Lonegan a member of the "tea party fringe" that "hijacked" the government and caused a shutdown.

In a debate last week, Booker said the former mayor of Bogota, a small borough in Bergen County, "ran his city into a ditch" and asked for a state bailout. He painted Lonegan as an extremist, and said sending another Republican who supports the government shutdown to Washington would hurt the country.

Before deciding to return heavy fire, Booker had focused more on policy differences with Lonegan on issues like child poverty and criminal justice reforms, painting himself as a political uniter, while promoting Newark's growth. He told Lonegan to "bring on your wrecking ball" after the primary, but almost immediately shifted toward highlighting policy differences, fundraising and disregarding attacks. Booker largely avoided local media interviews, but held regular "run with Cory" events, where a group of supporters jogged a mile with the mayor.

For most of the campaign, Lonegan has gotten little help from Republicans outside the state, save for endorsements from Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, both tea party favorites. The Senate Republican campaign arm hasn't sent any staffers into New Jersey — a standard practice in competitive races — and hasn't spent money on radio or television ads.

Booker had raised $11.2 million for his campaign through early October, compared to Lonegan's $1.4 million, according to campaign finance reports reviewed by the Newark Star-Ledger.

In an 11th hour push for Lonegan, tea party leaders have begun coordinating phone banks and a get-out-the-vote effort. The nation's largest tea party political action committee — the Tea Party Express — brought former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in to campaign for the GOP nominee last weekend.

Tea party supporters dream of another surprise upset like Republican Scott Brown's unexpected victory in Democratic-leaning Massachusetts in a 2010 special election to replace the late Sen. Ted Kennedy.

Democrats in Washington mostly stayed out of the race until the final week. President Barack Obama released a video Monday urging voters to cast ballots for Booker and Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz stumped with Booker on Sunday. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a longtime Booker supporter, spent $1 million on a television ad for Booker.

Booker campaign officials say they expected all along that the race would tighten, because no New Jersey Democrat running statewide has won with more than 60 percent of the vote in a generation. But they say they're confident that the double digit lead in the polls will be borne out on Election Day.

"We knew there would be a narrowing," Booker said in an interview with The Associated Press, "and so far the election has gone for us exactly according to plan."

Still, Republicans in Washington say they're pleased that Booker has had to work harder than anyone imagined. They're privately cheering the tea party's involvement.

And they suggest that Booker is making mistakes that could come back to haunt him as he eyes his political future. Some Democrats have mused about the possibility that Booker — a gifted public speaker who is young at age 44 — could make an attractive vice presidential candidate in 2016.

There's little doubt that Booker has national aspirations. He's spent a chunk of his mayoral tenure traveling the country, meeting with big Democratic donors and raising money in places like Hollywood and Silicon Valley. Hollywood star Matt Damon helped organize one Booker fundraiser in California.

Booker advisers suggest that the aggressive fundraising schedule has dual benefits, generating resources quickly for the special election, while giving Booker a head start for his next election. If he wins on Wednesday, he'll have to defend his seat next November.

Lonegan, however, says his campaign is "cresting."

"It's not a longshot," he told the AP. "We're going to win on Wednesday."

High Court Will Review EPA Global Warming Rules

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has agreed to consider whether the Environmental Protection Agency overstepped its authority in developing rules aimed at cutting emissions of six heat-trapping gases from factories and power plants.

The justices said Tuesday they will review a unanimous federal appeals court ruling that upheld the government's unprecedented regulations aimed at reducing the gases blamed for global warming.

The question in the case is whether the EPA's authority to regulate automobile emissions of greenhouses gases as air pollutants, which stemmed from a 2007 Supreme Court ruling, also applies to power plants and factories.

The case will be argued in early 2014.

Here's the retail packaging for PlayStation 4 and its many accessories

Here's the retail box for PlayStation 4 and its many accessories

You probably could've guessed, but the retail box for the PlayStation 4 rocks the same blue and white color scheme Sony's been employing for some time now. That box and the packaging for the DualShock 4, its charger, the PlayStation 4 Eye, and the console's vertical stand (yes, seriously) were all revealed on PlayStation Europe community manager Chris Owen's Twitter account earlier today, and they all look like pieces of one big family.

A handful of DualShock 4 flavors are on display, from classic black to "Wave Blue" and "Magma Red," and everything looks just about how we'd expect given the last eight months of introducing the PS4. The only bizarre standout -- the vertical stand -- is, well, it's a silly hunk of plastic that keeps the PlayStation 4 vertical. We've got high hopes that 3D printing enthusiasts the world over will print more creative (and less costly) versions for us to use.

Broadcasters Denied Injunction Against Aereo in Massachusetts

Aereo has won an important ruling in a Massachusetts federal court.

U.S. District Judge Nathaniel Gorton has denied an injunction request made by Hearst Station, owner of ABC affiliate WCVB-TV.

The broadcaster had argued in its copyright lawsuit that Aereo's system of capturing over-the-air TV signals and delivering them to subscribers' digital devices constituted a violation of its public performance rights. But according to the judge's opinion, Hearst was not persuasive in convincing the court that it is likely to succeed on the merits of its public performance claim nor its argument that Aereo is unlawfully distributing copyrighted works. The judge also wrote that "Hearst has made a minimal showing of irreparable harm that is an insufficient basis for entering a preliminary injunction in its favor."

Here's the full ruling.

The timing of the ruling happens as TV broadcasters are reportedly set to take a New York judge's denial of an injunction against Aereo up to the Supreme Court.

Here, Judge Gorton notes that the 1st Circuit (which covers Massachusetts, among other states in the Northeast) hasn't addressed the issue at hand.

Hearst argued that section 106 of the Copyright Act, giving copyright owners the exclusive rights to “perform the copyrighted [audiovisual] work publicly" was being violated. Aereo responded that it is transmitting private rather than public performances.

"Aereo’s interpretation is a better reading of the statute because the 'canon against surplusage' requires this Court to give meaning to every statutory term if possible," writes the judge in the ruling. "In short, while the Transmit Clause is not a model of clarity, the Court finds at this juncture that Aereo presents the more plausible interpretation."

The judge notes that "it is possible that WCVB will be irreparably harmed in its ability to negotiate retransmission fees with cable providers," before adding, "While the prospect of harm is real, Hearst has not shown that WCVB will suffer the 'full magnitude' of the claimed harm before the Court disposes of the case on the merits. Instead, it seems more likely that the harm will take several years to materialize."

Aereo's expansion from New York to across the country has set off multiple rounds of litigation, most recently in a lawsuit that was filed earlier this week in Utah. As the controversy lingers, a question has arisen as to what is the proper venue to hear the dispute between broadcasters and Aereo.

The digital service backed by Barry Diller has argued that disputes should be heard in New York, where the first case was filed. But Judge Gorton's refused Aereo's motion to transfer the case, saying, "Hearst’s decision to limit the scope of the suit to WCVB’s local programming and Aereo’s local activities also weighs in favor of resolving the suit here rather than in New York."

Aereo made that transfer request partly in the hopes of gaining favorable jurisdiction in the 2nd Circuit (which covers New York). But now, Aereo has succeeded for the first time in convincing a judge in a new circuit that the broadcasters are unlikely to prevail in their copyright claims. It's an important step for the company as broadcasters hold out hope that rulings concerning Aereo's competitor, FilmOn, in two other circuits, provide the necessary circuit split to bring the case to the highest court in the country.

Typhoon Nari hits Vietnam, 122,000 people evacuated

HANOI (Reuters) - Typhoon Nari knocked down trees and damaged hundreds of houses in central Vietnam early on Tuesday, forcing the evacuation of tens of thousands of people, state media said.

More than 122,000 people had been moved to safe ground in several provinces, including Quang Nam and Danang city, by late Monday before the typhoon arrived, the official Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported.

Nari later hit the Vietnamese coast with wind speeds of up to 102 kmh (63 mph).

Soldiers were sent to help people reinforce their homes and guide ships to shelter in Danang, a famous tourist destination, state-run Voice of Vietnam radio said.

More than 2,000 passengers were stranded when national carrier Vietnam Airlines canceled 14 flights on Monday and planned to delay another eight on Tuesday, the airline said in a statement.

Vietnam's central region is widely exposed to the sea and is often hit during the storm season between July and October. Typhoon Nari did not affect the Central Highlands, Vietnam's coffee belt, which lies further to the south.

Nari was moving west at about 15 kmh (10 mph) and was expected to weaken into a tropical depression later on Tuesday, the national weather station said.
