We?ve talked about cross selling your book in order to increase retention and make more commissions per client.? But if you?ve already done the usual home to auto and auto to home prospecting, maybe it?s time to try something new.
Since part of your job as someone?s insurance agent is to advise and educate them on the best coverage options, you should be actively looking for obvious gaps in coverage.
A personal umbrella policy is a great example.
Many people don?t know what an umbrella policy is or even the slightest idea of when they might need one.? (We all know how hard it is to get people to even buy the proper amount of liability insurance on their auto policy!)
So consider doing a semi-annual campaign for PUP?s to your clients that might be a good fit.? Run an audit and look for those that are already multi-lined with your agency (home and auto) and that might show a need for a PUP policy.
- Do they have high liability limits now?
- High net worth or a high value home?
- What about teenage drivers?
- Boats or recreational vehicles?
These are all signs that they might need additional liability coverage.? This will be a smaller segment of your agency, of course, but they are still necessary.
Send a letter with the quote amount and an explanation.? Then follow up with a phone call or try to schedule a phone or office appointment.? Remember, this is not something that is going to save them money but is something that they need and it needs to be approached that way.
By doing this campaign, you?ll be protecting your clients and educating them while increasing your book value and retention at the same time.
